I had the joy of sitting with a sweet friend recently.
As we sipped on our coffees, casually letting the minutes tick by, our conversation bounced from topic to topic with ease. We touched on everything from family updates to work struggles; season of life challenges to divine insights.
Before we knew it, two hours had passed.
As we parted ways, I was struck with what a precious gift my friend had just given me – her presence.
There truly is no substitution for being in-person with someone, is there?
I chuckle to think of the ministry of Jesus being conducted remotely.
Can you imagine it?
There would have been no advocating for the condemned woman in John 8; no life change for Zacchaeus in Luke 19; and no miraculous feeding of thousands in Matthew 15.
Even if technology would have been available to Jesus, I can’t see Him using texts, emails, or social media platforms to cast out demons, perform countless miracles, and bring about so many healings.
His was a ministry of presence.
Every interaction was purposeful with an eye on the eternal.
That simple truth challenges me daily.
And, as I strive to look more like Jesus today, these questions sharpen me:
Am I being purposeful with my interactions?
Do my words and deeds reflect the heart of Jesus to those around me?
How can my presence today shine the love of Jesus in someone’s life?
In a world where folks are turning to AI for friendships and isolation increases, being intentional about showing up, in-person, for other people is a genuine gift.
“Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others…” (I Peter 4:10 CSB)
Until next time, Grace and Glory!
