It unfolded before my eyes in a matter of seconds.

A tiny shrew, bent on gambling with his little life, started running across a very busy, four-lane highway.

The mass of rush hour traffic was averaging 80 mph and this little critter decided now was a good time to cross.

My heart was in my throat as I watched him start and stop, dart and dash between vehicles and under cars, his small life nearly extinguished on several occasions.

My wheels missed him by mere inches.

I looked in my rearview mirror to watch the drama wrap up as I saw that he safely made it to the other side.

I breathed a sigh of relief…

…then wondered how many times I have probably looked like that shrew to God.

How many times have I sprang into action only to find myself questioning my decision once I’ve begun?

How many times have I absentmindedly jumped into something only to find myself in over my head?

Stepping into anything when doubts are attached can make for a road filled with difficulties and dangers.

James refers to it as being indecisive or double-minded and notes the instability of a person in that position.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing…but let him ask in faith without doubting.  For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind…An indecisive man is unstable in all his ways.”  (James 1:5-8 HCSB)

Doubts make us like a wave, driven and tossed by the wind.  Or like a shrew, ducking and dodging cars on a freeway.

Faith gives us clarity.  Firm footing.  Solid ground.

Whatever lies before you today, my friend, I pray that faith will anchor your decision-making process and God would supply you with a generous amount of wisdom!

Until next time, Grace and Glory!
