Every week, as I sit down to write, I open up my laptop to a blank screen. All white. Nothing has been created on that new page.
There’s a feeling of exhilaration that comes with the prospect that I’m about to fill that emptiness with words – words that I pray are meaningful, helpful, insightful, and encouraging.
It’s not always easy.
Sometimes I stare at that blank page and wonder what to put on it. Every time I write, there’s backspacing and deleting that happens as I change verbiage or work to reword sentences to make them better.
It’s a frequent exercise that reminds me of life.
Daily, we wake up to a fresh start, a blank page, a clean slate.
We open our eyes, put our feet on the floor, and begin with an expectation of knowing that we will have a hand in crafting how our day unfolds.
Who holds our heart?
How’s our attitude?
What is our perspective?
The answers to these questions can really map the trajectory of our day. If our hearts are surrendered to Jesus, our attitudes will be positive and our perspectives heavenly.
“Let me rise in the morning, and live always with You…” (Ps. 139:18 MSG)
Is there still backspacing, deleting, and edits that happen during the day? Oh yes, it comes with being human.
Apologizing for things we wish we hadn’t said, turning away from attitudes we wish we didn’t exhibit, and repenting for a host of other offenses, happens more times than we can count typically.
But, by the time the sun goes down, my personal hope and prayer is that my day made God smile. I’m guessing that’s your hope, too.
Did the space of our day provide God with a page to write His story upon?
Was He able to use us in His ongoing, remarkable, eternal narrative?
Did we cooperate with His edits and corrections?
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Ps. 118:24 HCSB)
Until next time, Grace and Glory!
