It was an early, damp morning. I decided to lace up my shoes and take a walk.

I hadn’t gotten beyond my driveway when I saw them.

Little black birds darting from the sky to the road before heading off to perch in the nearby trees.

It took me just a second to realize what they were doing so early in the morning.

Breakfast!

The damp morning had brought out an assortment of worms and bugs and created a delectable smorgasbord for these feathered friends.

I watched as bird after bird flew down, picked up his choice morsel, and flew off to enjoy it. For as long as I walked that morning, the breakfast buffet remained open and very well attended.

The real-time visual was a great reminder of a principle that applies as much to us as it does the birds.

In order for the birds to eat, they had to go after the food.

In order for our hearts to be nourished daily, we need to do the same.

God promises in Matthew 6:11 to provide us with “daily bread”. But it’s up to us to pursue it.

What does that look like?

Anything from taking some time to read the Bible to placing ourselves in the company of others who will encourage and speak God’s truth to us (this can include online sermons, faith-building podcasts, worship music, and so much more).

Had the birds stayed in the trees, they would’ve gone hungry.

When we neglect to take time with our Father, dig into His Word, or spend time with His people, we cut ourselves off from the rich nourishment that our hearts desperately need.

Positioning ourselves at the buffet gives us the best shot at a meal!

What can you do to move to the food today?

Until next time, Grace and Glory!
