Have you ever asked yourself the question: “What else could possibly go wrong?”
Anthony and I recently had one of those weeks where all we could do was look at each other, laugh, and ask that very question.
A pipe under our bathroom sink had burst; our refrigerator was leaking on the kitchen floor; and the A/C in one of our vehicles went on the fritz.
On top of that, we were trying to reconcile a fraudulent charge we discovered on one of our credit cards; chase a few contractors for some home repair quotes; and help some dear friends who were navigating a very challenging season of life.
Calgon, take me away!
There was a time when, as a young Christ-follower, I believed that my new life with Jesus would somehow shield me from the day-to-day problems and frustrations of this world.
My thought was: new life in Jesus = flowers and sunshine for the rest of my life.
It may sound silly, but I’ve found that this mentality can be a common misunderstanding among Christ-followers.
Why else would we be tempted to lose our peace and joy when temporary troubles arise?
Why else would we be so quick to question God’s love for us when we encounter daily problems in life?
But, the truth will set us free.
And the truth is that “no more grief, crying, or pain” is a promise for heaven, not earth (Revelation 21:4 CSB).
In John 16, Jesus told His disciples blatantly, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (vs. 33 NLT)
And, in Matthew 6, Jesus said it about as plainly as He could, “Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (vs. 34 AMP)
Life is filled to the brim with disappointments, setbacks, and general maintenance issues. It is essential for us to remember the life-giving truths from Scripture so that we don’t lose hope, become discouraged, weary, or frustrated in our faith.
We are not promised deliverance from problems this side of eternity. What we are promised, however, is that Jesus Himself will walk with us through every single one.
“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV)
Every problem today is an opportunity to link arms with Jesus. Ask Him for help; lean on Him for guidance, clarity, and provision.
Don’t worry, He’s got you. Everything will be okay.
Until next time, Grace and Glory!
Amen. 🤗
