Have you ever observed Canadian Geese in flight?

If so, you’ll understand me when I say it’s not a quiet event.  It’s a noisy affair with honking galore.

Typically flying in a V-formation, the lead goose blazes a trail for those behind him to follow.  This point bird takes the brunt of the journey as he slices the wind current first making flight easier for those who are following him.

All the while, the rest of the geese are honking…honking…honking.

Those who study Canadian Geese tell us that this chorus of honking is their way of encouraging one another in flight.

It’s as though they’re saying to the leader and each other, “Well done! Keep going! You’re doing an amazing job!”

Without fail, every time I see a group of these talkative birds in flight, I am reminded of God’s family and how He calls us to encourage one another.

“But encourage each other daily…” (Hebrews 3:13 HCSB)

“Let us look out for one another and encourage each other to love and good works.” (Hebrews 10:24 HCSB)

We all know how tough life can be.  The various tests and trials that most of us will face during a lifetime are far to numerous to list.

Trying to fly through life alone makes us a sitting duck, easy pickings for the powers of darkness that love to divide, destroy, and wreak havoc.

God calls us to community, to be a part of His family, to find our flock.

It’s in these circles of people that we receive the necessary encouragement, support, love, and care to navigate life’s challenging journey.

Who is in your life today, dear friend, that is “honking” and cheering you onward?  Who is around you that encourages you to keep moving forward knowing that the best is yet to come?

We all need those people in our flock!

Until next time, Grace and Glory!
