Anyone else feeling like Snow White right about now? Secluded in your home (possibly with a few little “dwarves” running around) as you practice social distancing. The squirrels and the rabbits are becoming your good friends.
The initial thought of quarantine life sounded fun, didn’t it? A chance to rest, relax, and catch up on some much needed housework or DIY projects, perhaps. Yet, here we are, a couple weeks in, and I’m discovering that most are exhausted – myself included.
It’s not so much physical exhaustion. It’s emotional and mental.
Adjusting to new daily rhythms, ensuring we’re creating safe living spaces for our families, and learning to navigate new working “norms” can make our brains feel like they want to go to bed by mid-afternoon and have our emotions searching for a quiet place to hide.
Can I just call a time out right here and give us all permission to give ourselves some extra grace during this unusual and highly unpredictable season?
Jesus does. In Matthew 11, verse 28 He gives this refreshing invitation, “Come to Me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.” (GNT)
The simple truth is we were never created to carry such loads. We were made to rely on the One Who is able to handle those loads; those burdens; those emotional and mental weights.
Come to Me…I will give you rest.
This call to rest is for:
~every mind that is distressed
~every emotion that is fraying at the edges
~every heart that is broken and aching
No exceptions. The call is for ANYONE tired (exhausted) from carrying heavy loads (mental, emotional, spiritual).
Has this season of uncertainty found you exhausted? Uncertainty will always be part of living in this world, but one thing is certain – God’s promises.
We can respond to Jesus’s invitation today and receive that abundantly certain promise that He offers…
I will give you rest.
Until next time, Grace and Glory!
