Not too long ago, my husband and I decided to redo our living room.
It was a complete overhaul. We got rid of every bit of furniture, décor, and curtains. We patched cracks in the walls, put a fresh coat of paint up, and deep-cleaned the carpets.
It was no small undertaking. For months, the room sat totally empty while we waited for our new furniture to arrive.
During that time, it didn’t look much like a living room at all.
But then, pieces of furniture began to come in. Bit by bit, wall décor and room accents were added. And slowly, one simple day at a time, it began to look and feel more like a living room.
Throughout this extensive process, God reminded me of something I pray every day.
“Lord, please help me look a little more like Jesus today.”
Just like I recently did with my living room, God did a complete overhaul on me when I first decided to give Him my heart years ago.
While my decision to follow Jesus was sincere and life-changing, there was still a lot of the old Kristen that God needed to sort through, remove, and utterly discard.
Slowly, He transformed me into the new Kristen one simple day at a time.
He adorned me with new habits that reflect His heart, thoughts that more readily line up with His word, and a deep desire to see Him glorified in all that I do and say.
Now, 36 years after my original decision to become His, His work continues in me. One simple day at a time.
“Lord, please help me look a little more like Jesus today.”
We are all remodeling projects of God’s. Regardless of what stage of development you’re in, as the Master Builder, Creator, and Designer, He is dedicated and passionate about making you look more like His Son every day.
2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, “…that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (NLT)
Once you decide to exchange your old life for a new one, the adorning, transforming, and beautifying work will continue for the rest of your life! One simple day at a time.
“Lord, please help me look a little more like Jesus today.”
Until next time, Grace and Glory!
Amen🙏Loved, “Lord, please help me look a little more like Jesus today.”
This is my everyday prayer for me.
