Before Anthony and I wed so many years ago, I had reached a point where I thought if God ever wanted me to remarry, He would just bring someone to my door.
Kind of like Amazon home delivery.
God’s able to do all things, isn’t He? Depositing a marriage candidate on my front porch wasn’t beyond His ability, was it?
Laughable, I know.
Because, while God is able to do all things, He invites us (and wants us) to participate in what He’s doing.
The children of Israel provide a great illustration of this for us. Exodus 16 finds them on their journey through the wilderness, having reached a point where they were hungry and in great need of food.
God told Moses He would supernaturally provide manna – fine flakes that would appear on the ground following the morning dew; however, the people had to actively go out and collect it.
“This is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat…Gather as much of it as each person needs to eat.” (Exodus 16:15-16 HCSB)
Participation was required. God provided the necessary nourishment, but the people had to actively do something, too – go get it.
How often do we pray and wait for God to show up and do something while taking ourselves out of the equation completely?
How many times do we expect Him to show up like Cinderella’s fairy godmother and “bibbity-bobbity-boo” wonderful answers into existence for us yet neglect to open His word, connect with Him in prayer, and discern that we usually have a necessary part to play in the answer?
Participation is required.
Following a decade of singleness, I had to actively place myself where I could meet Anthony all those years ago. I had to position myself where I could be seen and found by him.
I had a part to play.
Likewise, God invites us into action today. Many times, the answers to our prayers involve some obedient legwork on our part.
God always promises to do His part. The question is, are we doing ours?
How are you posturing yourself today, dear friend, to participate with God in what He’s doing in your life?
Until next time, Grace and Glory!
