It was a beautiful, sunny day outside. Perfect for a back porch get together!
As I scurried around getting the porch prepped to entertain, I noticed one of the drink containers I put out was leaking. It was small. Barely noticeable, really. So, I left it out.
And while no one could detect the leak because there wasn’t an obvious DRIP, DRIP, DRIP, it became evident over the course of the afternoon as the container was depleted and a stream of lemonade snaked its way across my deck.
Making apologies for my leaky container to my guests, I internally chuckled thinking of the parallel between this leaky vessel and myself.
God calls us “vessels” – living containers that are filled with His Spirit and His glory.
“But we have this precious treasure [the good news about salvation] in [unworthy] earthen vessels [of human frailty], so that the grandeur and surpassing greatness of the power will be [shown to be] from God [His sufficiency] and not from ourselves.” (2 Corinthians 4:7 AMP)
Part of that “human frailty” mentioned above is that we’re leaky – forgetful, easily distracted, and scatterbrained.
For the most part, it’s not because we’re trying to be, either. It’s just part of being human.
Our minds are phenomenal things but they can only retain so much. Being able to recall every morsel of truth we ever hear, memorize every Bible verse we read, or pull up every meaningful sermon or testimony when we need it most is an impossibility.
That’s why it’s vital that we position ourselves daily to be refilled.
As a frail vessel, the wear and tear of each day can take its toll. Challenges can chip away and cause cracks. Hardships, temptations, and distractions can cause the leak to go from marginal to massive in a matter of minutes.
Finding things that refill us daily is crucial; intentionally positioning ourselves to be refilled is essential.
It might mean slipping away quickly to a bathroom stall to pray for a few minutes or turning on a worship song that fuels you. Perhaps, it’s jotting down a meaningful Bible verse that you can pull out from time to time during your day to read over and over as you encourage yourself with God’s truth and promises.
Regardless of what it looks like for each of us, let’s be sure to remind each other to bring our leaky selves to the Father often so He can keep pouring into us!
How are you positioning yourself today to be refilled, dear friend?
Until next time, Grace and Glory!
So so good ❤️❤️
