My website experienced a beautiful facelift recently. With some professional polish and shine, kristen-west.com looks so much better than it formerly did!
A day after my new website published, I decided to get on Instagram. I’ve had several nudges in that direction for a while now but it took my Gen Z daughter helping guide me through the process to get me on there.
Signing up wasn’t so bad. But then, there’s figuring out what you want to put on your profile, what to say on your bio, which picture to use, beginning the quest to “follow” people, and so on and so forth.
That may sound like a breeze to most, but for me it’s synonymous with taking a beating. Seeing me begin to deflate, my sweet daughter took my phone and began doing the work for me.
I thought about it afterwards and was tempted to feel terrible that she had to carry me through the process until the Lord reminded me it’s just not my strength. Plain and simple.
Several months ago, at just the thought of updating my website, I could feel myself getting physically weak. A fog drifted over my mind and a quarry of rocks took up residence in my stomach.
The bottom line is I’m not very technologically gifted. I try. But, I feel like a fish out of water. Even the minimal amount of website navigating I’ve learned is elementary compared to many others.
It’s ironic to me that most every techie person I know is the exact opposite of me in strengths, gifts, and abilities. Ask them to speak publicly and you can almost witness them going into paralysis. Hand them a computer and give them a quiet room to work and they are happier than birds in a puddle (https://kristen-west.com/2020/03/25/birds-in-a-puddle/).
How perfectly beautiful it is that God made us all so very different!
“There are different gifts…there are different ministries…there are different activities, but the same God produces each gift in each person.” (I Cor. 12:4-6)
Isn’t it incredible to know that it was intentional design on God’s part to create each of us so uniquely and to make it such that we need one another? I would never have begun blogging if it weren’t for the kindness and support of some very tech-savvy family and friends who held my hands as they ushered me into the shallow end of the social platform pool.
So, circle up, friends! Embrace the opportunity to connect with those who have strengths and gifts in areas that you don’t and keep your eyes open for opportunities to share your strengths with others!
