At the age of 34, Brittney Ryle didn’t anticipate her life falling apart.

But when she discovered her husband of 13 years was having an affair, it did.

“We’d had a good life together,” Brittney noted. “We even served together in church.”

The discovery of the affair paired with an unknown future led her to a very dark place.

“The ugly part of my story is that instead of chasing after God, I chased after things of this world,” she said. “Like partying which led to heavy drinking and substances to numb the pain.”

“One of the hardest parts of the whole season was the abandonment I felt,” she continued. “I began to question my identity and my worth. All of my worth had been tied to my husband and my marriage.”

Even while Brittney was struggling with these things, God was prompting people to reach out to her, check on her, and care for her.

“I eventually plugged into a small group with other ladies,” she said. “That’s when I really began to personally follow Jesus and work on my relationship with Him.”

Jeremiah 29:11 became a foundational promise in her life.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

“Life got so much better when I invited Jesus into it,” Brittney noted. “I am learning that I don’t need to fear or not trust God. He truly provides for my every need and will in the future.”

Looking back, Brittney has realized just how much God led her through that hard season for a reason.

“Before, I had put my husband – a man – on a pedestal,” she stated. “God used that season to show me that He is the only One who should be on a pedestal.”

“Fact is, God will take us all through hard seasons so that we learn to fully lean on Him,” Brittney said.

Does that mean her life is perfect now?

“I’m still learning to trust Him,” she chuckled. “There’s fears, insecurities, and trust issues that I have to keep surrendering to Him every day.”

“And, I’m also learning that I don’t have to worry about the future,” she continued. “I don’t even have to worry about dinner because He’ll take care of me.”

Brittney is able to give all the glory to God and she readily acknowledges that He’s the true Hero of her story.

“I have so much more peace and understanding of God because of what He’s brought me through,” she said. “None of us are meant to do life without God. He is amazing!”
