‘Twas a week before Christmas

And all through the house

It was relatively quiet –

Just me and my spouse.

The stockings were hung

And the tree was a sight.

Our home was quite ready

To receive family in a few nights.

Presents were wrapped.

Food had been bought.

The table would soon be set.

I wonder what I forgot.

My mind wandered in reflection

Of Christmases gone by.

The happiness, the love,

And the twinkle in my children’s eyes.

They anticipate this season

And rush to come home

With spouses and children

Now of their own.

The true meaning of Christmas

Is not lost in the noise.

The hullabaloo of laughter

And the whistle of toys.

A constant in my heart

And never far in my mind

Is the Babe in the manger;

God’s Gift to mankind.

He’s the Reason for my joy.

I celebrate His birth!

The Source of my hope;

And constant Well of mirth!

His birth paved the way

For my life to be made new.

The nativity and the manger

Remind me what He went through.

So, with just a few days to go

Before the “big day” is here,

I’d like to wish you a Merry Christmas.

God’s blessings on you and yours – far and near!

Until next time, Grace and Glory!
