Have you ever been in a situation where you knew nothing would have changed without the help of some other people in your life?

Let me be more specific.

I’ve always loved to write, but I would never have ventured into writing on a public scale were it not for the influence of some beloved people in my life.

Trusted friends, mentors, and family members who rallied around me, propped me up, and encouraged me to take this step of faith.

I felt a bit like the lame man in Acts 3.

Peter and John discovered him sitting at the temple gate begging for money. This man, who was over 40 years old (Acts 4:22), had been lame from birth (Acts 3:2).

Peter and John ministered healing to him in the name of Jesus then took “him by the right hand and raised him up, and at once his feet and ankles became strong.” (Acts 3:7)

Scripture tells us, a crowd gathered ‘round giving Peter and John the perfect opportunity to talk about Jesus and, while they did, the man was “holding on to” the apostles (vs. 11).

Holding on to…

God had just miraculously turned this man’s life around. Still, while he was getting used to this newfound change, he held on to Peter and John.

Maybe you can relate?

You may have experienced life-change in Christ, but it doesn’t negate the truth that sometimes we need a bit of support from others. Their encouragement, presence, or help gives us that extra layer of comfort and strength that everything will be okay. All is well. Keep going.

They help us get on our feet (and sometimes stay on our feet).

Having those trusted people in our circles can make all the difference as we move forward in our faith walk. Without them, we can be tempted to get stuck in our own heads and never take some of the most life-giving, rewarding steps of our own personal journey.

Who is a Peter and John for you?

Who are the people in your life you can hold on to?

Until next time, Grace and Glory!
