I grabbed the box of matches and lit the balsam fir candle in my living room.
Burned now to nearly its end, I knew I wouldn’t have much longer to enjoy the scent that is, by far, one of my seasonal favorites.
It seemed appropriate for it share the last of its fragrant energy with me while I put Christmas away for another year.
Beginning in the kitchen and working my way through the house, I put the tinsel back in totes, the baubles and balls back in their tubs, and the tree back in its box.
My husband came through the room at one point and proclaimed, “It’s so sad. I hate to see everything getting put away for another year.”
My soul couldn’t have agreed with him more.
I will miss the twinkling lights, the beautiful trees, and the festive holly (and secretly wish I could leave it up all year and it be socially acceptable).
While nearing the home stretch on my holiday clean-up, my eyes fell upon the word “Emmanuel” etched on a card.
God with us. (Matthew 1:23 CSB)
Isn’t that just like God, I thought? Reminding me that even though the pretty decorations may be getting put away, the Reason for the season is not.
He is with us.
Always (not just at Christmastime).
Emmanuel is…
…ever present.
…always available.
…consistently near.
The trappings of Christmas may get boxed up and put away annually, but God with us never does.
He is Emmanuel.
Every day.
All day.
The seasons will inevitably change. Christmas will come around again in a matter of months and the festive and shiny décor will make their happy appearance, once again.
But, Emmanuel will remain constant.
God with us.
Until next time, Grace and Glory!
Amen.💜😊
Thank you! Beautiful and timely message.
I agree I hating putting it all away. But I do have a small tree th
I love the lights, too! Yet so good to know the promise that God is ever-present!
