The day began like every other day recently.  I got out of bed, threw on my sweats and t-shirt, and headed for the coffee pot with my Bible and notebook in hand.

My trip from my bedroom to the kitchen, however, felt like a pilgrimage through a miry bog – my mind felt clouded, every step felt labored, and I just felt heavy (and not in the “I’ve-eaten-too-many-snacks-during-quarantine” kind of way, either).

As my coffee was brewing, I leaned up against my kitchen counter to keep myself upright and ponder why I might be feeling as bad as I was.

“I’m weary,” I said out loud, answering my own internal question.

Ding, ding, ding!  (It was like God was calling me on stage for the Price is Right – “Thaaaaaat’s right, Kristen!  Come on down…”)

I was weary…

~Weary of looking at a computer screen more than human faces

~Weary of talking over the phone instead of in person

~Weary of 6 foot spaces when what I really wanted to do was bear hug someone

~Weary of the lack of warm, personal interactions with the precious people I love so much

I was just weary.

I knew that my heavenly Father could sympathize and, like a good father, His follow-up question stirred me to action, “What are you going to do about this?”

I can’t do anything about changing the social rules in place at the moment, but I absolutely can do something about my perspective, my attitude, my choices, and the good that God can do if I yield myself willingly to Him today!

Let us not become weary of doing good,” God reminds us in Galatians. “For we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.” (Gal. 6:9)

Your weariness may look different than mine.  You may be an “essential worker” right now who is weary of navigating the public work environment while personally praying to be kept healthy.

Whatever weariness has looked like for you, I hope you’ll take just a minute, look to the Lord, and pray this with me –

“God, open my eyes to the good you would have me to do today.  Strengthen me to not be weary – You are my hope, my joy, and my prize.  Help me live in a way that glorifies You today and helps to advance Your Kingdom.  Remind me that I’ll reap a harvest if I don’t give up.

Fill me with wisdom and the Holy Spirit so that I am sensitive to Your direction and can be a vessel for Your honor to do Your good in this world.  In Jesus mighty name, Amen!”

Until next time, Grace and Glory!
