Telling others about Jesus.

It’s a subject often talked about in church circles. We spend a lot of time and energy coming up with handy tutorials, catchy acronyms, and sticky reminders on how to best share the Gospel.

And, while all of those can be tremendously helpful, nothing compares to simply talking about what Jesus has done for you.

A perfect example of this is found in John 4.

Jesus was sitting at a well and had struck up a conversation with a woman who had come to draw water.

While chatting, Jesus touched on matters that were personal to her and impacted her heart. He was truthful, kind, considerate, and gracious.

By the end of their conversation, this woman’s life had been changed because of her one-on-one interaction with Christ.

She left the well, ”went into town, and told the people, ‘Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?’” (vs. 28-29 CSB)

This woman didn’t hold a degree in theology. She hadn’t won the local memory verse competition. She wasn’t skilled in Bible knowledge or cross-referencing.

She simply had a personal encounter with Jesus. And she shared it with others.

The result?

“Now many…from that town believed in Him because of what the woman said…” (vs. 39 CSB)

Her story had a divine impact. Others came to know God because of her sincere testimony.

This simplicity is incredible and a good reminder for us today.

Let’s not get hung up thinking we need to know more about the Bible before we can tell others about God. We don’t need to be coached on what to say or given a script to use. Our stories come from personal experiences with Jesus.

How has God changed your life for the better? What has Jesus done for you?

The answers to those questions are what makes each of our stories so powerful and compelling. It’s personal. It’s real. And, just like the woman’s story at the well, it’s worth sharing.

Until next time, Grace and Glory!
