Do you ever feel like your voice is ineffective, unnecessary, or not as important as someone else’s?
I can think of countless times in my life where God has prompted me to speak up – answer a question, tell a story, provide some feedback – and I’ve remained silent. Sometimes, it was out of fear; sometimes, it was just because it felt awkward, and many times, it was because I just didn’t feel like my “two cents” were important.
Moses, a man who led scores of enslaved Israelites to freedom, had to wrestle with this issue, too. God handpicked Moses for this historic assignment and the first thing Moses did was question his voice.
“The Lord said, I have observed the misery of my people…I know about their sufferings…I am sending you to lead [them]…out of Egypt.” (Exodus 3: 7 & 10) Moses replied with, “Who I am that I should go…what will I say?” (vs. 11 & 13)
Moses had several “skeletons in his closet” which caused him to question the validity of his voice as well as God’s choice of him for this job.
Yet, God is incredibly patient and reminds Moses that He will be with him. “…I will help you speak and I will teach you what to say.” (Exodus 4: 12)
Moses agreed to partner with God and went on to lead 603,000 men, women, and children out of slavery. His voice and his story are now documented so that multiple generations can read and follow his example of faith.
Are you following that example? Do you believe God has given you a voice for a purpose? Just like Moses, your voice – and, ultimately, your story – has purpose and meaning and power.
It may be for a family member struggling right now, a friend who finds themselves in an overwhelming place, or a co-worker who needs hope. Whatever the situation may be, God has placed YOU there to be HIS mouthpiece. You were intentionally created to speak into the lives of those God places near you.
Just like Moses was not chosen by accident, neither were you. Those around you need your voice to help bring clarity, perspective, encouragement, and hope!
Lean into God today and trust that He will help you speak and give you what to say.
Until next time, Grace and Glory!
