Do you expect today to be different than yesterday? Most don’t. For many, days become a succession of steps to “get through” until we go to bed, wake up, and do it all over again.
That was precisely the case for the lame man we read about in Acts 3. The story begins by telling us there was, “…a man who had been unable to walk from birth…(he was) set down every day at the gate of the temple…so he could beg…” (vs. 2) That was his typical day and those days piled up to become his typical life.
UNTIL…
God showed up ONE DAY in the form of Peter and John and ministered healing to this man (vs. 4 – 8), rocking his world and changing his life forever !
How does this incredible story tucked within the pages of Scripture apply to us?
How often do we wake up with expectancy? Expectancy to hear from God or see Him move in our daily lives? Expectancy as we look for occasions to minister to people that God places in our daily paths?
The lame man wasn’t expecting healing on that life-changing day. He was simply hoping some soft-hearted folks would toss him a few coins so he could continue to exist. Notice the difference?
When we view life as a cumulative number of days stacked end-to-end, the idea of TODAY loses its potency – it’s just one more day like every other day; BUT , when we approach today with expectancy (a day where ANYTHING can happen) – we have just shifted our perspective for a powerful opportunity!
Whether you identify with the “lame man” in this story or Peter and John, the point is still the same. Today is brand new. Today offers a myriad of opportunities to expect to see God show up…
- This could be the day God provides that answer you’ve been waiting for.
- This could be the day where pain, guilt, and shame might be exchanged for joy, peace, and hope.
- This could be the day where someone you love and have been praying for meets King Jesus for the first time.
- This could be the day God guides you to uniquely minister to a person He’s placed in your life!
What are you expecting today?
Until next time, Grace and Glory!
Loved it! Peter 3:9 “….. but everyone to come to repentance.”
